Whether you want to volunteer for a few hours or are looking for an ongoing opportunity, there are many ways to support our families and organization.
At Our Day Center
Our offices and family shelter are in our Day Center on Mulligan Street. The shelter is our families’ home during their stay with us. It’s where they keep their belongings, meet with coaches, get ready for their day at work or school, and relax on the weekends. Volunteers are needed for the following opportunities:
Meal Preparation: Do you like to cook? You can prepare a meal for our families at your home with family or friends, with your class, or as a youth group activity.
Dinner Hosting: If you want to meet our families, you can complete our volunteer training and then co-host a meal at the Day Center. Depending on the age of our children in shelter, you may find yourself playing games, reading stories, or leading craft activities after dinner.
Childcare: If you like to work with children, you can volunteer to babysit while our parents participate in workshops or meetings at the Day Center.
Weekend Office Help: You can volunteer with a parent or other adult over 18 on weekends to answer the phone, do activities with children, and be a welcoming presence for resident families. This is a great way to volunteer with a parent.
At Our Events
We hold two major fundraising events, a walkathon in the spring and a gala in the fall, where teens play a major role.
Event Support: We need all kinds of help before, during, and after the event: getting donations, delivering items, set-up, clean-up, you name it. The teens have been amazing in providing the support we need!
Walkathon Team Leaders: Rally your friends and create a team to walk to raise funds and awareness for the issue of family homelessness.
Family Promise Clubs
Family Promise Clubs are groups in our local high schools that educate youth on the social issue of family homelessness and engage them in purposeful volunteering with our guest families. The following high schools are currently participating: Dover-Sherborn, Natick, Needham, Newton Country Day, The Rivers School, St. Mark’s School, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, Wayland, and Wellesley. If you want to form a club at your school, let us know and we would love to help you get started!
