Whether you want to volunteer for a few hours or are looking for an ongoing opportunity, there are many ways to support the families and our organization.

At The FPM Center

Our offices and family shelter are in the FPM Center on Mulligan Street. The shelter is the families’ home during their stay with us. It’s where they keep their belongings, meet with coaches, get ready for their day at work or school, and relax on the weekends. Volunteers are needed for the following opportunities:

Meal Preparation: Do you like to cook? You can prepare a meal for the families in Shelter at your home with family or friends, with your class, or as a youth group activity.

Childcare: If you like to work with children, you can volunteer to babysit while our parents participate in workshops or meetings at the FPM Center.

Moving Day Support: When a family moves out of shelter, we rely on volunteers to provide the necessary support. We need individuals with large vehicles, as well as strong volunteers who can lend a hand in lifting and moving heavy items — from mattresses and box springs to boxes of household supplies.

Outreach Events: When Family Promise is invited to community events, it is our opportunity to shine and let everyone know about the incredible work we're doing. We need enthusiastic volunteers to help recruit new supporters and ensure that families in need of our services are aware of the help we can provide.

At Our Events

We hold two major fundraising events, a walkathon in the spring and a gala in the fall, where teens play a major role.

Event Support: We need all kinds of help before, during, and after the event: getting donations, delivering items, set-up, clean-up, taking photos, you name it. The teens have been amazing in providing the support we need!

Walkathon Team Leaders: Rally your friends and create a team to walk to raise funds and awareness for the issue of family homelessness.

Family Promise Clubs

Family Promise Clubs are groups in our local high schools that educate youth on the social issue of family homelessness and engage them in purposeful volunteering with our organization. The following high schools have hosted Family Promise Clubs in the past: Dover-Sherborn, Natick, Needham, Newton Country Day, The Rivers School, St. Mark’s School, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and Wayland. If you want to form a club at your school, let us know and we would love to help you get started!
