Judith Dixon

Housing Equity Advocate

Upon graduating with a journalism degree from Boston University, Judith realized that writing about the difficulties and inequities of the world would not satisfy her desire to use her skills directly for good. Reporting on problems felt just a step removed from being able to dig in and work toward solutions. After earning a master’s in education, Judith spent the next 30 years working with children and families to leverage their strengths and provide support when needed. Her professional roles have included: Bilingual Teacher in a public middle school; Program Coordinator at a support program for families with young children; Elementary School Librarian; and Paraprofessional Educator working with children with special needs and wondrous abilities.

Judith’s life and professional skills have been greatly enriched by serving her community to amplify organizations’ positive messages and promote equity and social justice. She has twice served as a union contract negotiator to improve the compensation and working conditions of paraprofessional educators. She has worked with her church to support a capital campaign centered on accessibility and helped to launch a new website focused on extravagant welcome. Even as a two-time Boston Marathon Charity Runner, Judith committed herself to raising awareness along with funds for her nonprofit partner organizations.

Judith continues to be a passionate runner—either passionately running regularly or passionately avoiding it altogether. She thinks all of us should read more picture books, which are at once mini art galleries and guides to a joyful life that celebrates and serves others. She is an inquisitive, empathetic, lifelong learner who is passionate about the potential for data and words to inform and open minds. Judith is excited to bring her curiosity and energy to advocate for a more robust and accessible affordable housing market with Family Promise Metrowest.
